CIEL (Creative Infinite Energy Laboratory) is a research group dedicated to exploring next-generation energy materials driven by creative ideas and limitless possibilities. Guided by the vision of βBatteries for a Better Life,β CIEL aims to contribute to a sustainable future by advancing high-performance and efficient energy storage and conversion technologies.
The core philosophy of CIEL is Why-first researchβstarting from fundamental questions such as why performance improves and where and how degradation begins. Rather than focusing solely on performance metrics, we seek to understand reaction and degradation phenomena from a multiscale perspective, spanning atomic and electronic structures to particle and electrode levels.
Based on this fundamental understanding, CIEL pursues Mechanism-driven design, where clarified mechanisms are translated into rational and predictive material design principles. To achieve this, we integrate crystal and electronic structure analysis, electrochemical characterization, and computational approaches, establishing a tightly connected framework between experiments and theory across multiple length scales.
For students who aspire to ask fundamental questions, design materials logically, and create future battery technologies that improve everyday life, CIEL offers an open and challenging research environment where such ambitions can fully flourish.
